In the winter season, I always reach for cozy knits and dark, rich lip colors to reflect the moody weather. One of my favorite winter looks is a berry lip paired with jewel tone clothing. Jewel tones are flattering on most skin tones, especially fair and dark skin. Colors like teal, purple, sapphire, emerald, and ruby can make anyone look glowy. Today, I’m wearing a new-to-me bohemian blouse, thick scarf shawl, dark wash jeans, clog heels, and berry lipstick. As for the occasion, I’m doing some holiday shopping and then having a cozy Saturday night dinner at home with my husband.

Disclaimer: No, I am not a vampire. I am just very pale and this lighting is not the most flattering! Haha! Now that we got that out of the way…
When putting this look together with the lip color, I started with the purple Free People blouse. I could lie to you and say that I forked over $100 for this Free People top, but I actually snagged this blouse for $25 at Plato’s Closet. If you live near one of their stores and visit it, you might just find affordable FP clothes. If you can’t make it to the store, Thred Up is an online thrift store that sells tons of FP styles.
I paired the purple blouse with comfy, high-waisted jeans from Madewell. Did you know that they give a 15% discount to teachers? Their jeans always fit my hourglass shape and I highly recommend them because the investment is worth it!
I cuffed the jeans to show off my Dansko clogs. Y’all, these clogs have a 3 inch heel AND they are incredibly comfortable. I bought the wine color from the local store David Parker Shoes in Cool Springs and I am officially a Dansko girl. I also own these and wear them at least 3 times a week.
Now, let’s talk about the finishing touches. Y’all know that I’m referring to the lipstick, since this is a lipstick blog! This matte lipstick from Wet N Wild is very wearable for most skin tones. It looks really dark in the tube, but goes on a bit lighter like a fuchsia color. My only advice with this lipstick is that it is high maintenance. You will need to start with a base of foundation or concealer on your lips. Next, apply lip liner (see suggested product below this photo) and do touch-ups every hour or so.
Here is a close-up shot of the lipstick.

While this color does require more attention, it is striking and stands out in a sea of faces. Every time I wear this color, I get compliments and so will you!
Here is a basic swatch below. The thick swatch is the lipstick, while the thin swatch is my recommended lip liner for this color: Nyx Lip Liner: Copenhagen.
I hope that this Style Story inspires you to try jewel tones and berry lipstick this winter. Do you have a favorite berry lipstick, too? Tell me about it in the comments below!
