I have always admired rompers and jumpsuits, but always wrote them off for myself–until recently. I suppose I thought I couldn’t pull off a jumpsuit. I have a long torso and shorter legs, which means I have to size up in any type of romper, jumpsuit, bodysuit, or one piece swimsuit.
When the overall trend blew up this year, I decided to take a leap of faith and buy a black pair. I wondered if I could pull them off as my husband joked that I looked like a farmer. (Note: My husband tells me how pretty I look all the time, so it’s kind of hilarious when he is at a loss for words at my outfit.)
Spoiler alert: I did pull them off and I received so many compliments from other women. In all honesty, there are ladies’ fashion trends that men don’t like or understand, but we as women continue to wear these trends and support each other fiercely while doing so.
Speaking of pulling off jumpsuits, today I’m sharing my 5 favorite jumpsuits with y’all. Obviously, they all look stellar with bright lipstick, so I have linked the lipstick suggestions along with similar jumpsuits below each photo.
Go sleek, chic, and monochromatic in these casual black overalls by pairing them with a black sweater or long sleeved thermal. Pair the one piece with black ankle boots, ballet flats, or clogs if you’re feeling arty. If it’s long enough, throw your hair up in a messy bun and swipe on a darker neutral lip, like Nyx Velvet Matte Lipstick-Charmed. This color looks gorgeous on all skin tones. My tan, dark haired sister-in-law Liz looks amazing in this color, too.
Yes, you can wear casual white overalls year-round. You just have to style them as you would do with any “winter whites.” Slip on a white crew neck t-shirt to elongate your frame with one color. Roll up your pants a bit and pull on some cozy socks for texture. Lace up some ankle boots that show off your socks and wrap a neutral colored scarf around your neck for warmth. Lastly, grab a textured sweater or coat from your closet that matched your shoes and/or scarf. Think of classic colors that complement winter white: gray, tan, light blue…You get the idea. The finishing touch is the lipstick: Go for a bold orange or coral color to make the white outfit really pop. Try Loreal Infallible Le Rouge-Charismatic Coral. It’s a creamy, moisturizing formula that is perfect for these dry winter months. I love this lip color on tan skin and green eyes or dark skin. It just pops!
These casual overalls just look and feel cool. They definitely hide your shape, but they will win you instant “cool girl” status. To keep the look simple and not too trendy, pair these with a long sleeved thermal, clogs, and a long winter coat to play with proportions. You will get compliments on these, I promise! For your lips, swipe of a classic redish nude color, such as the cult-favorite, universally-flattering Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II.
This office-appropriate jumpsuit can be dressed up or down, according to your lifestyle. I found mine at a thrift store in Nashville for $10. The one I have linked is similar with long sleeves. For work, throw on a blazer or cardigan with ballet flats, pumps, or clogs and you’re ready! To keep the look professional and understated, reach for a neutral pink nude that flatters most skin tones: Nyx Lip Lingerie-Ruffle Trim.
This formal jumpsuit can go toe-to-toe with any evening gown at a wedding or gala. The velvet material is thick and luxurious. The belt defines your waist and it is so incredibly comfortable. No Spanx allowed! Pick out your shiniest evening heels and swipe on the reddest lipstick you own in your collection. The most flattering red lipstick that I’ve seen on lots of my friends and the one that I swear by is Nyx Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Kitten Heels.
Do you love jumpsuits as much as I do? Tell me about it in the comments!
