When it’s cold outside, I find myself reaching for warm knits and dark lip colors. Since dark lipsticks are more popular than ever, I am sharing my 3 favorite winter lipsticks for cold nights out. When I pick my lip color as I’m getting ready for a fun night out, I think about who I am going with. Whether I’m going out for a drink with my friends, having a date with my husband, or attending a much-needed happy hour after work, I have a few go-to dark lipsticks that I love so much that I just have to share them with y’all!
For Work and Happy Hour afterwards
When I reach for a lipstick to wear to work, I only consider the lighter, more natural colors in my collection. I like to downplay my makeup for my job to look as professional as possible. The darkest color I’ll wear as a teacher is this reddish berry lipstick: NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Seduction for $6.99. This weightless matte lipstick lasts for a few hours and it comes in so many creamy nude colors. It also looks fabulous on all skin tones–this is one of my go-to gifts for my girlfriends!
Pictured below, I wore this cozy cream sweater dress to work with this lip color. White sweaters and berry lipstick go together like a pb&j sandwich. Such a classic pair!

For Girls Night Out
When I go out with my friends, I pick out the loudest, boldest lip colors that I own. With my friends at my side, I can wear crazy lip colors without trying to look “pretty” for a traditional date. I have a few lip colors that I love (but my husband is very confused by haha), so I play around with dark greens, blues, and blacks for girls night out. A few months ago, I purchased this dark brown lip color from Sephora called Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 44 Purple Sunset for $14.
Unsure of how it would look on my pale skin, I tried it on with a preppy blazer and turtleneck to offset the trendy hue. The verdict? I’m in love with this crazy color! It looks a bit green on me (my husband jokes that I look like a zombie), but I feel so cool and chic in this lipstick. Isn’t it kinda wild? The formula is long-lasting and a great deal. It glides on smoothly and won’t budge for hours, although it definitely requires a precise application. With dark colors, the application must be flawless. Be sure to use concealer to fix mistakes!

For Date Night
When I get dressed up or down for a date night, I always pick a lip color that I know my husband likes on me. Since it’s the winter time right now and I’m rotating a lot of darker colors, my current favorite is a deep matte black cherry color called Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in Evil Twinfor $21. When wearing a darker lip color, dress yourself in neutral colors like gray, black, white, or pastels to let your lip color stand out. My husband jokes that I look like a beautiful vampire in this color. I wore this outfit to a sushi date and the color didn’t budge at all! The waitress at the sushi bar complemented me on this color and we both geeked out over our favorite dark colors!
