Style Story: Suspenders + Berry Lips

With the cold front that came last weekend, I have been getting the last few wears out of my favorite  winter pieces, including these whimsical suspender pants. These pants toe the line of masculinity and femininity  with the O-ring zipper and attached suspenders.

Since black is such a flattering color, I took a risk and ordered the suspender pants… and they are so comfortable! They definitely need to be styled with basics to avoid looking like you’re wearing a costume. Nevertheless, life is too short to wear boring clothes and I feel pretty saucy in them, but I also downplay the sexiness of the suspenders by pairing them with a basic black shirt. The suspenders “look” feels very pin-up for some reason, don’t you think?

I know the above photo is a bit out of focus, but I just love way these pants hug my curves. When I pick out clothes for myself, I care the most about the fit and silhouette, rather than the color or fabric. Are y’all the same way? What is it about a piece that makes you pull out your wallet to buy it?

As for the lipstick pairing, I went with a bright berry lip to keep the look playful. Red would be an obvious choice, but I reserve red for when I’m wearing white or gray. Berry lips are also unabashedly girly and offset the masculine suspenders. To get the look, try Mirabella Colour Vinyl Lipstick in “Icy Violet.” I received this glossy-finish lipstick in my February Lip Monthly subscription box, which was perfect for Valentine’s Day. Isn’t it a darling color? This fuchsia shade is much more wearable than you’d think and looks especially stunning on tan and darker skin.

So, tell me: have you ever worn suspenders? How would you style this fun trend?
