Travel Diaries: Mother-Daughter Cruise June 2018

Last week, my mom and I went on a cruise together for 4 days and it was absolutely incredible! We had both been on a few cruises in the past, but never as just the two of us. This past year, we decided that we want to prioritize our time together and see each other every few months. Since she is in West Virginia and 6 hours away from me in Nashville, we were meeting up in Lexington, KY as a midpoint for weekends full of spa treatments, martinis, and shopping. While this is always a fun, affordable, and easy option, we decided to go big and book a cruise together for this summer.

Since my mom and I are both natural planners, we hit the ground running with choosing a cruise line and dates. In the past, I had taken a cruise through Alaska with Carnival Cruise Line and was really impressed by the organization and value of Carnival. And so, we chose the Carnival Liberty for our mother-daughter trip and never looked back.

My mom and I are teachers, so we were itching to kick off our summer vacation time (two months straight!) with a tropical trip to the Bahamas. We pored through the various ports of call and decided unanimously on Nassau and Freeport. While we cruised through the blue waters, we took full advantage of all the on-deck activities, including pool parties, spa and salon treatments, live music and dancing, and musical theater shows. It was a very indulgent trip in the sense that we could primp, shop, eat, drink, and relax without worrying about catching up with the rest of our family. Yes, we left our husbands at home, but we just had a whale of a time! If you’d like, keep reading to see some fun highlights (including outfits) from my Carnival Liberty cruise to the Bahamas!

In Freeport, we kayaked 3 miles through the mangroves to get to this beautiful clear water.
During our day at sea, we went to the Serenity Lounge (kid-free deck area) to snag a covered cabana. This club was quiet and so peaceful!
Don’t be fooled by the ominous clouds in the sky. We spent the day in Nassau at Atlantis Resort and it never rained or thundered! We spent lots of time on the beach, eating lunch, and exploring the resort.

For Formal Night, we visited the spa (see below) and got all dressed up. This is one of the photography booths they offered.

This is the Salon Special that we took advantage of before Formal Night. We loved getting our hair done!

Yummy Drinks and Cruise Outfits

While there were several bars on ship, we frequented the speakeasy-style Alchemy Bar. This dessert cocktail, called “The Deal Closer,” was a delicious mix of Irish Cream, Amaretto, and chocolate liqueur.
This passion fruit martini was called “Martini Seduction” and it was presented with a flaming orange peel that was rubbed on the rim of the glass. It was so refreshing and it matched my nails, so it was a win for me!
My mom surprised me with this colorful dress from Simply Southern. She has the same dress, but we made sure to wear it on separate nights! I paired it with some whimsical fringe earrings and fuschia lipstick.
My mom wore this vibrant aquamarine dress. She got it last summer from Stein Mart! If you look closely, you can see that her necklace has starfish and shells on it!
Every night after dinner (usually fresh fish, salad, and chocolate dessert), we climbed up to the top deck to watch the sunset on the water. My jumpsuit is from Altar’d State and my mom’s dress is from Simply Southern (as I linked above).

I will add more photos as I receive them from my mom, but this photo diary really makes me smile. My mom and I had a blast and I’m very grateful that we treated ourselves to such a lovely trip with each other. Have you ever been on a cruise? If so, let me know in the comments!
