Since today is the official first day of Fall, I am sharing two of my favorite seasonal lipsticks for September and October. Burnt orange lips are wearable for most skin tones and feel more casual than typical red lipstick. When paired with warm-toned eyeshadow and a bit of bronzer, your makeup will feel like all things Fall rolled into one look. Have you ever tried this warm terracotta lip color? Keep reading to see what I recommend!
As a beauty junkie, I don’t discriminate lip colors and brands. Today, I’m sharing two pumpkin lipsticks with y’all: one matte and one metallic. While Smashbox is a high-end liquid lipstick, the other is a drugstore brand, L’Oreal, that works just as well. Pictured below are the two lippies that I’m reaching for this month.
Pictured below is the Smashbox lip color in the shade Out Loud. The formula is a matte, highly pigmented, liquid lipstick. The applicator has a pointed edge that helps serve as a liner tool to get a precise lip line. Smashbox claims that this formula lasts 8 hours, but it only lasts a few hours, if you drink coffee or eat a meal. Be sure to use concealer to clean up any messy spots and enjoy this dupe for the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Pumpkin. This lip color costs $24 and I got mine at Sephora.
The second lip color I recommend if you like pumpkin lipstick is L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Last 2-Step Lipstick in “Incessant Russet.” Priced at $10 at any drugstore (I prefer CVS for their well-stocked shelves of NYX and Maybelline, but Walgreens comes in clutch with their Essie nail polish displays), this is a fantastic value for a long lasting lipstick. The 2 step system is easy to use. First, apply the liquid lipstick on clean lips, let it dry for 2 minutes (just do your hair while you wait for it to dry), and apply the lip balm side of the product to seal in the lip color and provide moisture. This metallic shade claims to last 24 hours, but it lasted about 6 hours before I needed to touch-up. Whenever my lips feel dry in this formula, I apply the lip balm side of the product and it extends the color and keeps flaky lips at bay. I did not photograph the L’Oreal product on this post because it is so similar to the Smashbox product mentioned above. It all comes down to what you prefer: matte Smashbox or metallic L’Oreal. You can’t go wrong with either one!
To briefly mention my makeup look with the matte pumpkin lip by Smashbox, I applied foundation, concealer, and brows as usual. Then, I applied a liquid bronzer by J.Cat Beauty on my cheeks and around the perimeter of my face, including my jawline and upper forehead area. This step serves as a subtle contour that warms up my face. (FYI liquid bronze highlighter and contouring are not for the faint of heart, so proceed cautiously and use this video for help.) Next, I applied a peachy cream blush by Too Faced to the apples of my cheeks to bring out a natural flush. To play up the pumpkin tones, I used the Too Faced Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette on my lids, primarily blending the shades “Gingerbread, Spice is Nice, and Oh Snap. The shadows are buttery, blendable, and even have a gingerbread scent (yes, seriously!). To finish off the look, I took a small liner brush and lined bottom lash line with the shade “Gingerbread” to create a warm-toned smoky eye. I added black gel liner to the upper lashline and my favorite hypoallergenic mascara on my top and bottom lashes to polish off the look.
