Beauty Subscription Review: Lip Monthly September 2018

The September Lip Monthly subscription was full of neutral nudes and one bright purple colored lipstick.  Since September tends to be a transitional month from summer to fall, these neutral shades felt appropriate. This month, I received a mint lip balm, frosty pink lip liner, nude pink lip crayon, and a pastel purple lipstick. Keep reading to see my favorites from this month!

Starlooks Lip Pencil in “Rosette”

Jordan 9.20.18-20 (1)

In the color “Rosette,” this Starlook lip pencil deposits a frosty pink color on my lips. You can never have too many neutral pink lip liners and this one gets the job done. The formula is matte yet frosty and a bit drying. I’m not excited about this staple piece, but it sure is practical and retails for $19! I can layer this under all my brown and caramel lipsticks for fall. Scroll down a bit to see this on my lips!

Hikari Lip Crayon in “Macchiato”

As soon as I pulled this nude pinkish-brown lip crayon out of the pouch, I immediately swiped it on. I LOVE this neutral shade for work. Hikari makes highly pigmented lip products, including this shade in “Macchiato,” which retails for $13.  As for the formula of this lip crayon, it’s creamy and moisturizing. The color is low-maintenance, too.  I have worn this at least 7 times this month! If you need a wearable, natural nude lip color, try this one.

Here is the Starlooks lip pencil layered underneath the Hikari lip crayon. These lip products give off a natural, fresh-faced vibe. I appreciate that the lip pencil and lip crayon complement each other so I can wear them together.

Appeal Cosmetics Lipstick in “Vamp”

Jordan 9.20.18-19 (1)

What is it about purple what feels so witchy and festive? I love that Lip Monthly included a purple lipstick for September’s subscription. This pastel purple lipstick by Appeal Cosmetics is creamy, moisturizing, long-lasting, and highly pigmented with a satin finish. The color is pinker than it looks in the tube.  My only qualm with the product is that it retails for $29, which I think is a bit high if I were paying full price. I wore this color to a kebab restaurant and it lasted through the meal. Purple and berry lipsticks reflect the darker, richer colors of the season and I’m here for it!

Pictured above, I am wearing the Appeal purple lipstick. As you can see, it’s a muted fuchsia shade that is very flattering on fair skin. I’m a fan!

Portland Bee Balm in “Oregon Mint”

This minty lip balm is made and sold in small batches by Portland Bee Balm, a small PNW business run by Portlanders Brad and Anika. My lips feel tingly and the formula gives off a peppermint scent. The packaging is a textured wood wrapped around the lip tube and the product retails for $3. I appreciate that Lip Monthly included a unique lip care product and you can’t go wrong with a beeswax balm! I use this for workouts and night time when my lips need to breathe.

To wrap it up, I am pleased with this month’s selection of a bold purple, neutral lipstick and liner, and a lip care product. My favorite is probably the Hikari “Machiatto” lip crayon for its work-friendly vibe, but the purple lipstick is a fun wildcard item to have for Halloween coming up. If you are interested in signing up for the 4-5 lip product subscription Lip Monthly, you can sign up here to get your first month for $6 (use code 50OFF). What is your favorite item this month?

  1. You’re right about the lip crayon. It’s super low maintenance with great color payoff. You also pulled off the purple lipstick. It looked sooo good on you!
